Curriculum

The curriculum and textbooks are American and instruction is in English with the exception of foreign languages (French & German; that follow International Language standards) and Arabic based on the Ministry of Education curriculum. We provide a broad, well balanced course of study which promotes academic, moral and artistic development. The curriculum is evaluated on an on-going basis to assure that it meets the needs of our student population. The Egyptian Ministry of Education recognizes the American High School Diploma as meeting the requirements for the general secondary certificate of education.

The General Course Sequence – College-preparatory course sequence for students whose skills are at grade level.

Arabic:

Arabic is offered from the elementary to the high school level in an integrated program that prepares both native and non-native speakers to communicate fluently both orally and in writing. International students are enrolled in Arabic as a Second Language (ASL) while Egyptian students follow the Ministry of Education curriculum.

Enrichment and Life Skills classes

Life Skills are taught throughout the curriculum. Life skills include areas such as Personal Development, Communication & Relationships, Decision-Making & Responsibility and being respectful to both their teachers and peers.

Throughout the year, students are given opportunities to join after school Fine Arts and sports activities based on their individual interests. Choral, instrumental, dance, art, karate, football and more are offered. Each spring St Joseph’s holds our annual party. While the final production is only 2 to 3 hours long, students learn about the need to practice, and listen to instructions, costume design, stage management and many other areas involved in a school wide event. This is truly a mini course in Fine Arts and event management

Community Service

Beginning in Grade 9, students actively participate in community service initiatives designed to foster empathy, leadership, and social responsibility. Opportunities include supporting school and community events, organizing clothing and fundraising drives for orphanages, contributing food donations for Ramadan care packages, assisting with bake sales, and helping manage crowds during special events. Students also engage in meaningful outreach activities such as leading anti-bullying campaigns and reading to younger students, making a positive impact within and beyond the school community.
